Game Development Summer Workshops Hosted by MAGIC
At MAGIC, we host a summer workshop series focusing on game development. Kids — and anyone, really — often come to the world of coding and development through video games. Our workshops focus on Unity and C#, allowing students to build a playable game by the end of each course. Take a look at our summer offerings, share them with your kids, and register for a unique learning experience.
Our Summer Workshop Courses
At MAGIC, our Summer Workshop Courses include:
Intro to Game Development
Our intro to 2D gaming course teaches the basics of building any game without 3D graphics. You will learn how to use design tools, test the game, and build a knowledge base that is useful when moving on to more advanced programming or coding.
Included in the course are lessons on:
- C# programming
- Design workflow
- Managing development within Unity
- 2D character animation trees
- Building stories within the game
- Sound and lighting
- Player health and damage

All courses occur on Zoom, and students can download software for the class in advance. The class meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 4pm to 6pm starting June 7th and ending August 11th.

Why Take a Summer Course?
The kids are out of school. Parents have some time off. Summer is the perfect time for any project. Sure, you might add a deck in your backyard, or you can work with us at MAGIC to learn how to build 2D and 3D video games. While we love educating kids and hope to build a strong tech foundation in the area, we welcome adults who simply never had the time to learn coding or didn’t know where to start.
We also encourage parents and children to attend together. Play video games with your kids and they want to learn how to build their own games? Register with MAGIC, sit down, and take the class. This is likely the only time of year you can attend consistently as a family.
Each course is $350 a person, with free registration for Westminster, MD residents and financial assistance available for residents of Carroll County on a first come, first served basis. We also offer a military discount.
At MAGIC, we welcome you to register for our Summer Game Development Workshops today. Send your child, bring all your children, or attend the class with your kids to learn what makes 2D and 3D video games tick. You’re also welcome to contact us anytime or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on our courses or services.
