The Duckietown program is an open source, worldwide initiative developed at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to provide state-of-the-art, hands-on, and inclusive AI and robotics education for all students. MAGIC is using the MOOC(Massive open online course) kit to further our understand of how AI can be implemented in real world situations.
Building safer autonomous systems
As part of our work with Ducktown, MAGIC and our resident high school interns are learning concepts that will increase our understanding of autonomous engineering and how we can use that information to create comparable systems to use in projects like our Main Street Autonomous Corridor. Trial and error helps us to move forward in designing concepts for future implementation.
What you can do
As part of the Duckietown initiative, MAGIC’s plan is to host a series of summer workshops and work groups for students grades 8-12 and college level to further the work done by our student interns. Through the Duckietown curriculum, students will gain knowledge of Robot Operation Systems(ROS), Python programming, and general robotic concepts.
Students who have an interest in AI or robotics can join our workshops mailing list to receive up to date information on workshops subjects and dates.
Taking base code from Duckietown and making specific modifications to the code, our interns were able to complete an autonomous loop using only code snippets along with the calibrated camera housed on the duckiebot.
