Volunteers
Time is just a important as money. MAGIC relies on the skills and support of the private sector to succeed. Tech industry professionals are encouraged to volunteer for our events and ongoing projects to pay forward and help mentor the next generation of professionals.
MAGIC has several volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Take a look at our events lineup to find a good fit for you.
- Hackathon – MAGIC hosts a weekend long event that challenges teams of 2-4 students to design, build, and market an application in a weekend. This fast paced competition pits teams against each other to produce a viable, usable app in a weekend. This is an event that utilizes skills from all aspects of business, graphic design, development, and marketing to succeed. If you are a professional who is interested in mentoring and coaching these bright individuals during the competition, let us know. This is a great opportunity for college students to network and for professionals to check out the newest talent about to enter the work force.
- Capture the Flag- MAGIC hosts 2 Capture the Flag competitions each year. This is a great beginner level cybersecurity competition to introduce high school and entry level college students to the world of Cybersecurity. If you are a security professional with cyber skills, this is a great chance to mentor and coach the next generation of ethical hackers. These competitions are hosted at several locations simultaneously throughout Maryland.
- Cyber Club – This bi-monthly club meeting is geared toward high school students grades 8-12. Students work on various tech projects related to networking, System administration, and cybersecurity. Tech professionals are always welcome to share their knowledge and help empower the next batch of professionals.
- We are always looking for General volunteers to help with our other events and workshops. The Hackathon and Capture the flag are large events so general help is greatly appreciated for setup and cleanup.
