WESTMINSTER, MD – For the first time in its history, MAGIC hosted its 17th Capture The Flag (CTF) competition on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Autonomous Robotics Innovation Center (ARIC) in Downtown Westminster. The event drew participants from across the States of Maryland and Wyoming, and the Greater Washington D.C. area. With a total of 20,505 possible points up for grabs, the competition featured 75 registered users and 22 teams, creating a spirited yet friendly environment. Five teams participated from our local community college, Carroll Community College, and all three teams from long-time partner University of
Maryland Global Campus secured spots in the top five.
“After 7+ years of hosting beginner-level cybersecurity events, I am excited to see the enthusiasm and dedication our participants still have in shaping the future of cybersecurity” said Kim Samuelson, Executive Director of MAGIC. “Each year brings new challenges and innovations, and as the cybersecurity landscape continues to evolve, events like these play a crucial role in preparing the next generation of experts.”
MAGIC extends its thanks to Penacity, LLC, whose generous support made CTF17 possible, and to the team of volunteers like John Lockney, Josh Woodward, and Jonathan Woodward, who contributed their time and expertise to develop new puzzles and provide mentorship during the competition. MAGIC looks forward to continuing its mission of promoting technology and innovation, and hopes to inspire even more participants in the years to come.

Winning teams: Participants in the top three winning teams will be awarded Amazon gift cards in the amounts of $100, $50,and $25 for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, respectively.
