A New Initiative to Boost Tech Startups in Carroll County, Maryland
MAGIC is excited to announce the launch of StartUp Lab, a pilot program designed to provide valuable guidance and support to STEM startup companies in Carroll County, Maryland. This initiative aims to foster growth, innovation, collaboration, and community within the local tech ecosystem.
StartUp Lab was developed in collaboration with Tamar Osterman of the Maryland Department of Commerce, Karen Zuccardi of the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) and Rick Leimbach of Startup Portal, with support from the Carroll County Department of Economic Development. It is a year-long program featuring four quarterly in-person meetings with support between meetings. The meetings will include mentors and participating tech startup companies. During these sessions, companies will have the opportunity to discuss challenges as well as receive guidance and coaching in a peer-supported environment.
StartUp Lab mentors include:
- Terry MacGregor: Founder of Bytelion (acquired by Olive) and SequenceStack.
- John Nowell: Chief Executive, CarrTech Corporation; Vice-Chair, Board of Directors, Frederick Innovative Technology Center, Inc.
- Allyson Redpath: Director of Entrepreneurship, Maryland Department of Commerce; Co-founder, Citrine Angels.
- Christopher College: Managing Partner, TCP Venture Capital; Member of Westminster Angel Network.
- Debra Cancro: Founder of VoiceVibes (acquired by Bigtincan); Member of Westminster Angel Network.
- Graham Dodge: Executive Director of MAGIC; President, Pathcheck Foundation; Mentor at Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures; Founder of Sickweather.
Participant Criteria:
- Five to six mentors will guide five to six selected tech startup entrepreneurs.
- All companies must have their business located in Carroll County or be Carroll County residents planning to establish and grow their business in the County within 12 months.
