Cybersecurity is a broad term that refers to the safety and security of our digital footprint. In its basic form, cybersecurity is the protection of computer systems and networks from the theft or damage to computer hardware, software, and electronic data, as well as from the disruption or misdirection of the services they provide.
The world is turned on 24/7 and the need for cybersecurity specialists is rising exponentially every year. MAGIC has designed several entry-level programs that introduce students to the world of cyber, encouraging the next generation of professionals to become engaged and ready to take on the challenge we face today.
Hosted Capture the Flag Competitions
Our bi-annual hosted events bring together participants and industry professionals on a given Saturday in April and October. These on-site events are hosted in various locations worldwide. This means a student in Maryland could be competing against a student in Estonia, Ecuador, or Ireland. Our main arena in Westminster, MD is the epicenter of the festivities, and our MC and various industry speakers take the competition to the next level.
Online Capture the Flag Competitions
MAGIC also offers an online version of our hosted Capture the Flag competition. This virtual CTF uses the same beginner level type content that our hosted event utilizes. The look and feel is different, but no less competitive and challenging. This online version allows for a broader range of participants and students that may not be able to attend a competition in person.
Cyber Club
Cyber Club is a bi-monthly tech experience for students grades 8-12 who are interested in gaining knowledge in the field of networking and cybersecurity. These club meetings are led by tech professional volunteers that work in the industry every day. If you are looking to increase your skill level or just have a serious interest in the industry, this may be what you’re looking for.
AFA CyberPatriot Competitions
MAGIC is a proud sponsor of several teams for the Air Force Association CyberPatriot cyber competitions. These competitions take cyber challenges to the next level. We sponsor a high school team, an all-girls high school team, and a middle school team.
We are always accepting new members so contact Kim Samuelson at ksamuelson@magicinc.org for information on how to join the team.
