MAGIC is pleased to announce that they are recipients of a Gula Tech Foundation grant of $100,000 to expand MAGIC’s cybersecurity education programs. This funding from the Gula Tech Foundation will greatly increase MAGIC’s capacity to facilitate cybersecurity education in Carroll County and beyond.
MAGIC plans to use Gula funding to increase offerings of its Capture The Flag (CTF) for Teacher workshops, introducing cybersecurity concepts for teachers to incorporate into their classroom curriculum. Funding also increases MAGIC’s capacity to hold in-school Cyber Clubs, meeting students where they are to provide enriching educational experiences.
“We’re really happy with the work of MAGIC,“ said Cyndi Gula yesterday at the Confidence in Data Care awards ceremony. ”They’re really doing great things, building technology and communities and driving innovation- and being very specific in inviting people who do not normally think of themselves in a technology arena, and doing great work.”
The Gula Tech Foundation’s Confidence in Data Care competitive grant supports nonprofit organizations that strive to increase public cybersecurity awareness by providing immersive cybersecurity experiences.
With the generous funding provided by Gula, MAGIC also plans to begin a series of workshops and seminars to introduce cyber concepts to the public. These workshops will include Data Care for Seniors, Data Care for Small Businesses, and lecture series that explore professional opportunities in cybersecurity.
“Cyber is everywhere, but a lot of times with cyber you really deal with the universities and big cities, and the rural people are sometimes left out,” said Ron Gula during the award announcement. “And MAGIC has done a really good job engaging those kinds of communities.”
