Here at MAGIC, we know that students are the future, and that’s why we do everything possible to help guide them to a successful career in tech or entrepreneurship. In addition to our variety of programs, workshops, and special events, MAGIC is proud to partner with Carroll County Public Schools to further our Cyber Jobs Program. Keep reading to learn more about this beneficial program.
What You Need To Know
The Cyber Jobs program creates a pipeline for Carroll County Public School students to launch successful and rewarding technology careers. The program helps place high school seniors into tech-focused paid internships throughout Carroll County. With the participation of local businesses, Carroll County Public School students get the opportunity to see what it’s like to work in tech, all while earning money for themselves. No longer will students have to choose between getting a dead-end job to get by or an internship opportunity.
How it Works
The Cyber Jobs Program works with the help of students, coordinators, and local businesses. To get started, students will get in contact with their local Carroll County Public School career coordinator. After expressing their interest in an internship work experience, their coordinator will use resources to find a location, and the student will leverage their networking connections to find possible locations. Once a site is agreed upon, the student’s Career Coordinator will visit the site and determine if it is a good fit. If it is a good fit for the student, the Career Coordinator will then set up a training plan and request required paperwork to develop a beneficial paid internship or work opportunity.
A student can earn up to 2 credits for their internship or work experience. Since the student’s internship or work experience will take the place of a class, they have the option of doing it in either fall, spring, or even summer. During that class period, the student reports to their worksite. MAGIC’s new office location will serve as the community touchpoint between education and business initiatives.

Why Does It Matter
MAGIC is proud to be a part of this program because it aligns closely with our Cyber Jobs Initiative. Our Cyber Jobs Initiative is funded through a Rural Maryland Council grant that provides rural areas with access to educational and workforce development support to bridge the employment gap throughout the cybersecurity industry. Through this grant, MAGIC is dedicated to creating opportunities for new jobs and demands for careers in cybersecurity.
Companies and students can benefit from this initiative. Our student intern experiences allow students to gain experience working in an organization’s infrastructure while giving the company an opportunity to pay forward and receive a cybersecurity benefit.
