WESTMINSTER, MD – August 27th, 2021 – The Mid-Atlantic Gigabit Innovation Collaboratory (MAGIC), in partnership with Tables and Towers and Save Point, is organizing the first annual Good Game Fest from Friday, September 24th through Sunday, September 26th at TownMall of Westminster and will feature events and activities for the whole family, including a free-play retro arcade, console tournaments, gaming industry conferences, game jams, live music, board game workshops, and more.
Festival sponsor the Baltimore Ravens and the Ravens Gaming League will be providing special event prizes for tournaments and raffles, including tickets to Baltimore Ravens games and a chance to virtually game with a Ravens player later this season. To promote their new gaming league, the Ravens will also have their cheerleaders and mascot, Poe, at the festival to greet fans.
“The purpose of Good Game Fest is to promote healthy gaming attitudes,” says Graham Dodge, the Executive Director of MAGIC. “We want to highlight the different career paths that a passion for gaming can lead to in Esports and the gaming industry.”
The conference sessions will feature panel discussions and talks with developers in the regional and global gaming industry from Riot Games, Big Huge Games, A List Games, GRID, and Breakaway Games.
Coaches and players from Springdale Prep’s and Mount Saint Mary’s University’s Esports teams will also be in attendance, presenting talks on how to begin an Esports program and how to become an Esports professional. Both institutions offer financial support to student gamers and will have booths at the festival for students and parents to get additional information about these opportunities.
Attendees can register to compete for cash and prizes in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Rocket League, Fortnite, and Mario Kart tournaments held throughout the weekend. Tournament registration begins on Wednesday, September 1st, and is free with the purchase of a ticket.
Other event sponsors include Maryland Print House, the Business/Employment Resource Center (BERC), Ting, Gauge Digital Media, Skyline Technology Solutions, Startup Portal, American Ice Company Cafe, Infinite Love Project, and Dynamic Dimension Technologies. These organizations will be battling it out in the Good Game Fest Biz Battle, a special video game tournament reserved for festival sponsors.
