MAGIC adding new computer building challenge

On Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 1-4pm e-End and MAGIC will hold the first Project e-Reboot Competition. Together, e-End and MAGIC have created an event unlike any other in the region! This event will challenge teams of high school students, grades 9th through 12th, to create a functioning computer from recycled components at e-End’s facility in Frederick, MD. Project e-Reboot is free and interested high school students should register as soon as possible. Space is limited, register on our Events page

The stage for Project e-Reboot is set in a post apocalyptic world. Teams of 2-3 students will be tasked with establishing communication by using a pile of recycled computer parts to create a computer, access the internet and print the needed e-Reboot “rescue” instructions. “The Project e-Reboot Competition is different from other MAGIC events in that students will not have access to outside resources, such as personal cell phones or computers. They will have to rely on the knowledge and problem solving skills of their team, rather than relying on the web,” said Amy Rupp, MAGIC’s executive director.

“We enjoy supporting kids in the STEM field. The e-End staff is excited to host the event and provide the electronics components for the challenge,” said Steve Chafitz, president of e-End, the electronics recycling company in Frederick, MD. e-End offers secure data destruction and electronics recycling services in Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic region.  Partnering with MAGIC on this event was a perfect fit.

MAGIC provides hands-on technology and entrepreneurial education experiences for entry-level participants to enrich their understanding and interest in technology. Throughout the competition, students will gain hands-on experience in an unstructured and exciting learning environment that will spark their interest to learn more in the field of computer science.

Volunteers will be onsite for the event to maintain safety and determine the winner.
